A Walk Down Memory Lane: Bratz Music

28 Apr

I seriously LOVE Bratz music! #bratz

Their music is seriously GOOD. It sounds professional. Even if people don’t necessarily like the dolls, many people enjoy their music. Their album, Bratz Rock Angelz, even made it on ¬†Billboard 100’s list!

Their music is better than most songs geared towards children. Even teens and adults can enjoy their music. Monster High is cool as a doll line, but their music is a little cheesy. No offense. ūüėõ

So, I’m going to post all of the Bratz songs I’ve collected on this article! Have a listen!

Bratz Yasmin

Yasmin’s¬†nickname is¬†Pretty¬†Princess because she’s pretty and because she¬†royally rules. She’s also called Pretty Princess¬†because¬†she¬†takes the coolest common clothes and turns them into royal perfection.¬†Yasmin’s¬†fashion passion¬†focuses on¬†bohemian and retro fashions,¬†in autumn¬†or¬†earth tone colors,¬†and with exotic textures and patterns.¬†However,¬†occasionally,¬†Yasmin¬†likes to wear¬†vibrant colors, too. Her favorite color is Honey Yellow. She’s¬†all about blending different styles into one graceful look.¬†Her style has a feminine touch to it.¬†She is known for her¬†gorgeous and¬†unique natural beauty: her sandy-red¬†brunette¬†hair,¬†natural tan, brown eyes,¬†and the beauty mark under her left eye.¬†She is considered to¬†be¬†of Iranian-Jewish and Hispanic/Latina origins.¬†

She’s considered¬†“a girl with substance”.¬†She’s known for being¬†quiet,¬†shy, and mysterious¬†with a regal air¬†and¬†an open mind.¬†She may not express herself verbally very well, but she’s full of ideas inside.¬†Sometimes, Yasmin is so quiet, she’s hard to read. She has a difficult time standing up for herself and she can be sneaky.¬†Yasmin is a sensitive and soulful individual.¬†She is very earthy. She is the most natural (wearing less makeup and seldom dyeing her hair) out of all of her friends. She has also¬†shown interest in plants and animals. Yasmin loves¬†music. She seems particularly interested in singing and playing her own instruments. She also enjoys writing. She has written music but also enjoys journalistic writing as well.¬†Because Yasmin is so quiet, she’s observant which helps her see things others miss. This observant trait¬†assists her as a¬†journalist.¬†She’s also interested in writing plays and stories as well. She enjoys playing the¬†ukulele¬†and the guitar as well as making flower crowns.¬†She also enjoys attending festivals, especially music festivals.¬†¬†¬†

All of the Bratz girls have performed as music artists. Yasmin has personally experimented with pop, pop rock, hip-hop, soul, funk, Arabic-Bollywood style, and R&B genres. Yasmin is considered the best vocalist of the girls. Her vocals are powerful yet graceful, and they add soul to every song she sings. Her music showcases her strong and open-minded personality. She has stated that her favorite genre of music is anything alternative, like alternative rap, alternative pop, and alternative rock.¬† She also enjoys pop rock¬†and acoustic rock. She seems to enjoy upbeat pop and rap music as well. Some of the artists that she likes include Black Eyed Peas, Katy Perry, and Nicki Minaj. She seems to be interested in artists that are open-minded and experimental. Her favorite stage color is Neon Yellow. Yasmin’s signature stage move is pulling up fans on stage to serenade them.¬†¬†

Bratz Sasha

Sasha’s nickname is “Bunny Boo” because she loves the hip-hop thing. Sasha’s¬†fashion passion¬†comes from the streets: she combines the old school with the new. She’s always on the hunt for a new look. She’s also interested in anything experimental and avant-garde.¬†Sasha is considered the most passionate about fashion of all the girls. Sasha often makes a “statement” with her fashion. She’s often seen wearing bold colors and hairstyles, especially gold. She likes to be flashy but classy.¬†Sasha is known physically¬†for her dark brown skin, golden brown hair,¬†and green eyes. She’s considered attractive.¬†She is of African American descent.¬†

Sasha is also called “Bunny Boo” because she always gets the scene “hopping”. Sasha is lively with a good sense of¬†humor,¬†and she¬†loves to party. She’s known for having a big, loud, and strong personality.¬†Her dreams are as big as her personality, as she wants all that life has to offer.¬†She is confident and sassy.¬†She knows who she is, what she wants, and how to get it! She’s not afraid of confrontation. She’s determined and is considered a natural leader.¬†Sasha is always ready to defend her friends. Sometimes, she can be quick-tempered, straight-forward, a perfectionist, and a little selfish. She often feels misunderstood. But her friends know she means well. Despite her shortcomings, Sasha is down-to-earth and an honest friend.¬†She is super smart as well. She‚Äôs interested in politics, history, and other social studies.¬†Sasha is¬†interested in music and¬†fashion. She¬†also enjoys the performance arts such as dancing and acting. She aspires to be a music producer with her own fashion line!¬†Sasha knows how to play the drums and DJs on the side. Sasha¬†also¬†enjoys making¬†Youtube¬†videos showcasing her makeup skills¬†as well.¬†¬†

All of the Bratz girls have performed as music artists. Sasha has personally experimented with pop rock, rock and roll, new wave, glam rock, pop, R&B,¬†Soul, funk,¬†reggae,¬†and hip-hop.¬†Sasha has a strong voice with a slight rasp. Her vocals add power to every song she sings. She’s considered the¬†second best¬†vocalist among her friends. Her songs showcase her powerful, strong, down-to-earth,¬†expressive, and unique personality traits. She has stated that her favorite genres are¬†hip-hop and R&B, but she also shows interest in soul and rock and roll. Her two inspirations are¬†Beyonce¬†and Jennifer Lopez¬†(¬†J-LO), two music¬†divas¬†who give dynamite performances.¬†Her favorite stage color is plum purple. Her signature stage move is changing her look mid-performance.

Bratz Cloe

Cloe’s nickname is Angel because that’s what she is! Her friends gave her that nickname for many reasons. For starters, no matter what she wears, she always looks divine. Cloe’s fashion passion focuses on anything dramatic and trend-setting, which includes animal prints, shimmering or sparkly fabrics, and pastels like pink¬†or blue. Despite her flair for dramatics, there’s a sporty element to her style. Cloe follows the trends much closer than the other girls, and she’s considered good at finding deals or sprucing up common fashions for on-trend looks. Cloe is considered naturally pretty. She is known for her blonde hair, blue eyes, and sometimes her freckles. She is the only one in the group who wears glasses. She is of Icelandic heritage.¬†

Cloe’s friends also call her ‘Angel’ because she’s considered sweet and her head is always in the clouds. She’s quite the dreamy romantic in her group. She can be a little na√Įve, ditzy, and gullible, but she’s also considered playful,¬†sweet,¬†kind, and friendly. She’s also tough.¬†She is seen as the leader of the pack.¬†All the Bratz have shown an interest in sports, but she is the sportiest of her group. She has shown interest in many different types of sports. Soccer is her favorite sport, but she’s considered to be great at skating and skateboarding too. Though she can be klutzy, she’s graceful when doing any sporty activity. Cloe is highly creative. Cloe likes to see life through a different lens-which is why she likes cameras. She also likes to paint and draw, especially her fashion ideas. Cloe is interested in web design as well. Cloe is a drama queen, so she is naturally good at acting and seems interested in acting professionally. Cloe has been shown to play the acoustic guitar and keeps one in her room. Cloe is a socialite. She loves to hang out with her friends and loves social media.¬†

All of the Bratz girls have performed as music artists. Cloe has personally experimented with pop and pop rock genres. She has lighter vocals than all of her friends, but her voice always showcases her charm and personality. Her music is characterized by its upbeat nature. Her music often showcases her fun, strong, and friendship-oriented personality. She has stated that she enjoys any artist topping the charts. She seems to be open to all genres of music, but mostly pop, pop rock, and American Country music. Artists she has shown the most interest in are Prima J, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga, artists that were most relevant to Cloe’s world at the time she listed them. She’s into the latest music trends. Her favorite stage color is red. Her signature stage move is covering the front row with confetti.¬†

Bratz Jade

Jade’s nickname is Kool Kat because she loves cats and because she’s cool! Her fashion passion focuses on anything on the cutting-edge of cool. Her style is extreme and far-out. Yet, she still maintains a “sizzling flair” and sporty edge. She likes anything new and quirky cool. Jade is known to be beautiful and the “ultimate fashionista”. She has a light complexion, light brown eyes, and jet-black hair which she experiments with. She is considered to be of mixed descent: Of Caucasian and East Asian¬†(Chinese and Japanese)¬†heritage.¬†

Jade not only loves cats, but she’s inspired by the feline persuasion! She’s considered quick in mind with an even quicker wit. She‚Äôs also sassy and fierce. She is considered to be very intelligent and is always one step ahead in everything she does. She loves science, especially¬†child psychology,¬†chemistry,¬†and nature, and one of her aspirations is to be a scientist. She has an extreme and far-out outlook on life. Her friends consider her personality to be just as quirky and extreme as her style.¬†In fact, she‚Äôs kooky!¬†She’s bold, confident, and adventurous. She can be a little unpredictable and sometimes her friends don’t understand her fashion sense, but she approaches everything with an open mind and open heart. She loves anything extreme, especially extreme sports. Skateboarding is her favorite extreme sport. Jade shows an extreme interest in anything that relates to fashion. She aspires to be a fashion designer and possibly start her own fashion blog. She’s worked for a fashion magazine before and is always searching for inspiration.¬†Jade can play a bass and violin. Jade was originally meant to have suffered from an eating disorder in her early life.¬†¬†¬†

All of the Bratz girls have performed as music artists. Jade has personally experimented with pop, pop rock, punk pop, alternative rock, urban pop, R&B, hip-hop, disco, new wave, ska pop, among others. Because of her raspy voice, her vocals add edge to every song she sings. Of all her friends, she’s experimented with the most genres. Her songs showcase her unique, bold, resilient, hard-working, friendship-oriented, and fashionable personality traits. She has stated that her favorite music genres are electro-pop and punk rock. Still, she has shown interest in a variety of different pop artists such as Gwen Stefani, Jessie J, and Lady Gaga. Most of the artists she’s interested in have a stylish edge about them.¬†Her favorite stage color is platinum silver. Her signature stage move is getting the crowd to dance.¬†

The other Bratz that have had songs were Roxxi, Sheridan, Eitan, Fiana, and Anna.

There have also been songs from characters in the movies and tv shows. These characters include Madam Demidov from the movie Bratz Girlz Really Rock, the Dwarfs from Bratz Kidz Fairy Tales, and Alonce from the Bratz TV series.

2014-2015 Fashion Idea #3: ANDROGYNOUS

15 Feb

I love edgy fashion. For the last couple of months, I have been totally obsessed with the androgynous and metro-sexual styles. This is due, in part, to the fact that I’ve been seeing this style show up more often lately as people begin to embrace their inner “masculine” and “feminine” sides. The whole mystery of it intrigues me, and it’s fun to trick the mind in that way!

To add, there is a huge wave of support from the LGBT community. That community encourages people to embrace who they are, and its influence trickles into the entertainment  industry.

But you don’t need to be a part of that community to appreciate the look.

Many are afraid to rock the look because they are afraid of looking too much like the “opposite gender”. But there are plenty of ways to rock the androgynous look and still look sexy to the opposite sex.

Here a few examples of celebrities, dolls, and book characters who have rocked the look and pulled it off (Read the descriptions below the pictures to learn more about them!) :

Androgynous Women

Some toys have gotten into the trend. Particularly the American Girl franchise. Felicity Merriman was one of few dolls that came with her own pair of breeches, trousers only worn by men in her time. She tops it off with a riding hat. Unfortunately, this retired. But it can give you some ideas…According to the book Meet Felicity, she “borrowed” a pair of breeches from her father’s apprentice, Ben, so she could sneak off to visit her horse, Penny. It was also so she could run and move faster. This outfit wasn’t marketed for the main line, but could be an accessory for girls and their dolls. This doll has a back story that begins on the brink of the Revolutionary War.

American Girl also marketed Kit Kittredge in androgynous fashion. She was the only doll to have androgynous fashion marketed in her main line. This pair of overalls was given to her by her brother because she outgrew her clothes, according to the accompanying book Kit Saves the Day.

American Girl also marketed Kit Kittredge in androgynous fashion. She grew up in the 1930s during the Great Depression (obviously when the veterans of androgynous fashion began their style). She was the only doll to have androgynous fashion marketed in her main line. This pair of overalls was given to her by her brother. She wears them to make it easier to work in her garden, and possibly to supplement for the lack of clothing items, due to the fact that she outgrew her old dresses, and since she can’t afford new dresses, according to the accompanying book Kit Saves the Day. In the story, it also helps her disguise as a boy! Kit has also been marketed with a baseball outfit.

Of course, you know the ever popular Bratz dolls have tried any edgy fashion you can think of, and the tomboy look is no exception.

B. Scott (although considering himself transgender) gets a lot of attention from women who just wish he could give women a chance! Though guys may not necessarily admire him, you can learn. Perhaps try wearing your hair long and wavy?

So maybe you can try these looks! Keep an open mind, step outside of your comfort zone in fashion, explore your options. There are many ways to appeal to the opposite sex. Sometimes it’s okay to borrow some styles from the opposite gender. At one time, all men wore stockings, bows in their hair, heels, and even long robes! Pink was a boy color, but now girls rock it as their own!

Don’t be afraid to take a chance! We live in an age where trying new things is a part of modern society.

Bratz as Pop Stars & Rock Stars: Walk Down Memory Lane

23 Jul

I just thought I would dedicate this next article to the Bratz fashion trends that consist of being a musical artist. Bratz, since their first single release in Japan, have had several successful singles and albums released, plus scorching wardrobes to go with them. So lets take a walk down memory lane, shall we?

From the Show Me What You Got Music Video:

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Bratz have had other lines that show off their music style! Take a Peek!

Bratz Space Angelz Live in Concert-One of the best! From left to right: Fianna, Dana, Jade, Cloe, Sasha, and Yasmin!

Bratz Rock Angelz-One of the best! From left to right: Roxxi, Sasha, Yasmin, Jade, and Cloe. I hate that the movie switched Cloe and Jade around! Just trying to give Cloe the most popular outfit. Sucks!

Bratz Star Singerz-Not one of the Bratz best imo. From left to right: Sasha, Yasmin, Cloe, and Jade. They all look alike aside from some minor details. And it's really girlish rather than the spunky spicey style the Bratz normally rock.

Bratz the Movie Talent Show-It came with a doll collection too, but only with Cloe and Yasmin, which sucks.

Bratz the Movie MTV Performance-Left to Right: Cloe, Yasmin, Sasha, Jade. If only this were an actual line (and not with just Cloe and Yasmin in it!)

Bratz Girlz Really Rock from left to right: Yasmin, Cloe, Jade, Sasha

Bratz Neon Pop Divaz. They fell right back into cloning each other. From top to bottom: Cloe, Jade, Sasha, Yasmin.

Bratz On the Mic

Bratz Rock Left to Right: Yas, Jade, Sasha, Cloe

Bratz Style Starz-Probably the best one since Rock Angelz! From Left to Right: Cloe, Jade, Yasmin, and Sasha. Really Shocktastic!

So That’s all folks! Just giving a little memorial to the Bratz styles of old that represented music trends! Enjoy! I will be doing more Bratz “memorials”. No? Don’t want any? Let me know if you like this one!

The Bratz ARE Back! Check out their best line since 2005: Bratz Style Starz!

19 Jul

In the Totally Tattooed article, I mentioned that Bratz seemed to be back with the edgy look that they were so notorious for having. Of course, you know by now that the Bratz are always supposed to be cutting edge and and should be a doll line that breaks fashion rules. But Totally Tattooed didn’t confirm that the individuality, the creativity, and the diversity was back.

Well, with this new line, it just proves that the Bratz power is still lurking somewhere in the shadows! Here’s a peek at the newest line:

Bratz Style Starz

Not only is this line edgy (pushing that limited edge, look at those spiked stiletoos!), but this line is their most creative line since their re-launch! 2010 just seemed like it left off from the 2007 year, which was a really bad year for Bratz. 2012 is more promising. Inspired from the pop divas of the the “Gaga” Pop Era, we see the Bratz glamorize-into-fashion famous music idols we all know! Can you tell? I’m getting the Nicki Minaj vibe from that curly wig Yasmin is sporting. Yas’s song has been noted as sounding like “Super Bass”.

Nicki Minaj and her Curly wig! Yas is inspired, obviously!

Ok, it’s been noted that Jade has been inspired by Jessie J! Jade’s song seems to be inspired from Nobody’s Perfect.

Jade is wearing a spiked jacket similar to what Jessie J is sporting.

Cloe seems to have a Gaga look about her! Cloe’s song seems to be inspired by Edge of Glory.

Lady Gaga in a luscious but bold red outfit! Cloe seems to be inspired!

And Sasha is obviously inspired from Katy Perry! Sasha’s song seems to be inspired by Last Friday Night (TGIF). And even the vintage nerd glasses seem to come from the outfit in the music video.

Katy Perry’s Candy dress-Sasha is definitely inspired from the lollipop theme!

Some may say, “How is this creative? It’s just ripping off a bunch of poor musical artists!” But it is cleverly done. Not only will these dolls connect the consumer with pop music and celebrity trends, but these dolls take a bold and original approach to their inspiration! The designs, the wigs, and the individual inspirations bring back the Bratz distinction. And look! All of the shoes are different from one another! Finally! The Bratz have come out with “pop star” lines before but never have they ever looked this outrageous! For some reason, I had a feeling one day they would rock the Gaga thing…

My favorite part about this line was the element of surprise and how unexpected everything was! Everyone thought Jade was Cloe, and Cloe was Meygen! It wasn’t until later we found out the truth: Everyone is mixed up with different trends and hair! No one looks as you would expect them too! It totally breaks the racial and ethnic barriers, which I think is so fun and interesting. I’m also excited that they aren’t poseable in the legs. I think that’s what made the Bratz lose their chunky shoes, and because it took away that splash, the detail went along with it. Let’s face it. Not every doll is meant to be pose-able. The posing bodies just seemed like an imitation of Liv and Monster High anyway. It’s time for Bratz to cut the imitations and get back to what they do best. Let’s just hope the quality comes back. I want some good hair, and I also want more detail in the lines. I do like the little detailed candies in Sasha’s dress and the spikes on Jade’s jacket. The downside that I do see to the line are some of the changes from the prototypes. The major thing I really don’t like is Cloe’s legs. It is painted black. This is going to make it hard for people to mix and match the fashions if they want to. It just shows a lack of quality. Why not real leggings or stockings? Barbie was normally the doll with the painted on clothes, not Bratz. This is my biggest pet peeve about this line. The second thing that gets me is Sasha’s leggings. Where did they go? Well, I guess I can let that one go. I’m tired of the legging thing. But they were cute and made the doll pop out even more. I also am not sure I like Yasmin’s new leggings. The original leggings were more interesting, and had more detail. The new leggings are okay, though…

Check these dolls soon to come out in stores!

Bratz Style Starz Artwork!

If only the dolls looked like this! This was a prototype! Why would you change them MGA! They always take away the quality when they do that!

The catchiest Ad and Series to hit Youtube

7 Jan

Youtube is known for having videos that go “viral”. What? You mean like a virus? Yea, like a virus. It means the videos that spread like a sickness to so many homes it becomes a part of popular culture. Remember? “Climbing in yo windows, snatching yo people up”? Or maybe “Leave Britney Alone!”? Or maybe Two Girls and One Cup? Let’s not reminiscence. As vulgar as those videos may sound, or as retarded, or embarrassing, they entertain us and draw people to them. Remember Rebecca Black’s “Friday”? That song was awful, and yet it has more viewers than good songs. These videos are a hit.

There is one video that’s my personal favorite.

Finally, we’re reaching an age of music where people’s voices can be heard instead of “disguised and synchronized” by “autotunes”. The voice is great, the lyrics, while not deep, make sense. The song is catchy but tasteful.

It looks like the Rockabilly style is back…

The next one is a series created for two of the most awkward things: being a girl and being black.

Enjoy.

2011-2012 Fashion Idea #2: Cyber Punk

1 Aug

This fashion idea, Cyberpunk, I discovered from researching Steampunk. It takes a more modern technological approach to punk. Unlike Steampunk, which borrows from the original technological age old, this one borrows from today’s technological age, and the way we see our future. We see ourselves similarly to how the Victorians saw themselves: as people on the turn of the Century, ready to advance. Quite fitting, as the new generation of teenagers are entering Aquarius in Neptune, which Aquarius rules the future and unusual fashion. Neptune rules escape and visual images. It also rules illusion. It also rules drugs or anything that helps us escape reality and how we want others to see our reality. Technology is their escape, and they want the world to visualize them as a technological generation. It’s why all of the music videos are seen at “clubs.” Aquarius rules the club. Nothing could’ve said it better than this caption:

Aquarius in Neptune

That’s why we see all of these movies that are competing to visualize the best technology. This generation escapes through it. Cyberpunk is a reflection of this generation and it’s standards. Also, while Steampunk encourages a Utopian dream, Cyberpunk is a bit Dystopian in it’s approach. Guess what? Aquarius rules the Utopian dream.

Cyberpunk

Archetypes from Movies, Video Games, and Shows: Ghost in the Shell, Tron: Legacy, The Matrix, Serial Experiments Lain, Paranoia Agent’s Soundtrack, Reboot, Dead Or Alive: Final, Sigma, Kingdom Hearts II’s The World That Never Was, Metropolis, NeoTokyo, Batman Beyond, Magnetic Rose, Ergo Proxy, Parasite Dolls, Spy Kids

I really love Cyberpunk Fashion. I wish I was a part of the generation when it comes to style. My generation was Neptune in Capricorn. I know, pretty boring, right? Well, at least we ruled the business suit.

Cyber Punk is slick, and really edgy. It gives you an Electronica feel to it. Think of being in a club, dimmed lights, and glow in the dark items everywhere and you’ve got Cyber punk. Or think of moving in leather battle gear, dark area, and neon lights charge up on your car. I get that same kind of strange mysterious feeling when I see it. It’s not the normal haunted house feeling, it’s like the extreme haunted smart house feeling. It’s hard to describe. But it rocks. Think of it this way: instead of wearing a lace shirt, wear a ripped black netted shirt. Instead of wearing aviator goggles, meant to bring out the fashion of driving an old-fashioned airplane, the goggles are made for someone meant to drive a turbo-speed jet plane, made for the future aviators. Wild neon hairdos, scene hair can add itself to the style, extreme colors either for the whole head or streaks. Under-bust corsets, stretchable rather than Victorian, and rather than lace-up, they appear to strap and zip up most of the time.

Here’s some ideas

Cyber punk is actually good for the summer to me! It has a red-hot feel to it. It’s perfect for going to a club, night-on-the-town, or even a concert. Hey, it’s even good for a Halloween costume. You can wow people when out with friends. It’s a fun and versatile style. I think it’s becoming quite common in almost any music video you see. You can use the style to decorate your house, or maybe use it as a party theme. make your house look like a club! Whatever you choose to do, it’s definitely, to me one of the hottest fashion scenes of this year and next year.

2011-2012 Fashion Idea #1: Steampunk’s Clockwork Couture

1 Aug

I’ve been observing some different styles over the internet lately, and I’ve noticed that I’m feeling the rust and dusty theme lately. I know, it sounds kind of old, but I can’t help but be drawn to styles that are inspired from the past. The first style I’m particularly interested in is Steampunk. Think of visual images of Victorian technology built into a style. It’s a fashion scene that is just starting to be recognized.

Steampunk

Archetypes from movies: Steamboy, Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, Canon Fodder, Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland, Howl’s Moving Castle, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Sherlock Holmes, Atlantis The Lost Empire, Treasure Planet, even Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has some elements, particularly on Willy Wonka himself. If you want you can even add in Sweeny Todd if it suits your fancy.

Steampunk fashion seems to combine Victorian Era look with a gothic and punk flourish. Really, it’s a clutter of rusty fashion. Think of a steam train, or boiler room, or rusted metal, and put it into fashion, and you’ve got steampunk. It is said to combine science fiction with fantasy. The style gives off that element. It’s quite a cutting edge fashion and completely taking a fashion risk. But for some reason I love it. Think of white blouses, waistcoats, trench coats, corsets, military-inspired clothing, aviator goggles, top hats, canes, gun belts, swords, and many other Victorian items, and combine them together. I am particularly fond of the gun belts, top hats, aviator goggles, and long coats. It’s a fascinating theme indeed. I fell in love with this style a while back on an American Girl website. That was the first time I heard of it. It’s just now becoming a big fashion style.

If anyone is interested in Steampunk fashion, it’s best to shop at Clockwork Couture for a start.

This fashion is recommended if you can’t find that perfect costume for Halloween. Or if you just want a unique look for this fall, give it a try. Recommend it to friends who are willing to take a dare in the fashion world. Check out movies to get some ideas on the look. Wear it to a party. Use it as a party theme. You can even decorate your home in the style. It’s up to you how you want to use it, but I think it’s cool it can be used in such a broad way. There are even some musical artists that also encourage the look, like Docter Steel. Give it a Try! I even recommended this idea to the Bratz. That doll line needs some edge again.

Another style Steampunk is said to be related to, but it’s not really the same, is CyberPunk, which I might do next. Cyber Punk reminds me of the “scene” look everybody’s doing now.

Generation Next: Do you remember the late 90s, Y2K?

5 Jul

Anyone who grew up in Generation Next probably remembers the following between 1995-2003:

Pop culture……We are generation “Scorpio” which also defines our generation. All we care about is sex, violence, and power. Our generation is marked by everything dark and mysterious…we hate superficiality and anything “cheerful”…anything mystical, psychic, and occult. We transformed ideas of tranformation, lost the adult “rites of passage” other generations before us had, and are the only generation who can’t find jobs in the recession, still living with parents well into our twenties, and take a while to get married, if at all. But we still find ways to rebel against society, use the internet as our way of gaining social power, and stick to ourselves in our secretive and mistrustful minds. We are also quite an emotional generation….dangerously emotional.

Television

Anyone who is anybody can’t forget the grand children Networks of Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and Disney Channel. Rugrats and ALL That defined Nick, until the Rugrats grew up and Kenan and Kel left All That and so did Nick Cannon, and Cartoon Cartoon Fridays, Toonami, Ed Edd and Eddy, and Powerpuff Girls defined Cartoon Network. But MTV was infested with a bunch of teeny boppers who began filling the channel with their pop videos. At least we still had Michael Jackson… VH1 was filled with oldies. And BET actually had funny comedians on Comic View and showed black movies and shows. Let’s not forget Nick Jr. owned Blues Clues, Face, and Little Bill, while Playhouse Disney had Little Mermaid and Madeline…they even used to show Timon and Pumba, Arabian Nights, and other “Disney-like shows”. Back then, cable was just becoming the “It” thing. I still remember My Brother and Me and Clarissa Explains It All, Sabrina the Teenage witch. Fox and ABC were big back then, UPN too…Sister, Sister, Smart Guy, which also came on Disney Channel along with Boy Meets World, Growing Pains, and Brotherly Love…with those Lawrence Brothers that everyone loved. Disney even had shows like the Famous Jett Jackson, So Weird, and The Jersey. Courage the Cowardly Dog was like So Weird…except weirder…Scooby-Doo was still big. We liked a lot of mysteries like Shelby Woo and the occult like So Weird and Goosbumps….we also loved Power Rangers and Anime as kids. Barney was even in our slot time, though I always preferred Kid Songs….and Zoom, the new version. Aurthur was our show too! And even Sesame Street, especially Elmo’s World. And we weren’t too far from old classic cartoons from Tex Avery, Toonheads like Bugs Bunny, and even some Animaniacs….best time for television. In later years, we supported shows like Lizzie Maguire, the first tween show to make over a million viewers, and That’s So Raven which was the first longest running show on Disney Channel. We loved Lindsey Lohan…until she got cracked up.

Remember tha babies who could talk?

What a creative show! Back when Klasky was running things: Rugrats!

The Simpsons, South Park, 90210, Living Single, Baywatch, X-Files, Law and Order, and other nighttime television. Not to mention, watching the Bulls game was far more entertaining than it is now.

Technology

Computer was just becoming a part of the home, and laptops was spreading jobs across the nation. And everyone used to chat on AOL…it used to talk back and say “You’ve got Mail” which used to be so cool. Of course, I was always on yahoo…..Then MP3s came out, though you could only play one song at the time. CDs were still pretty big. Downloading became big like two years after 2000. But people still bought CDs, and everyone had a CD player with big headphones….The DVD player was it, but then everyone found out Playstation 2 could play DVDs and it was done. Playstation 2 was like the biggest thing, though Dreamcast and Gamecube also marked the generation. Of course, realistic graphics were the biggest thing back then. LOL Remember Street Fighter, Tekken, Final Fantasy? And NBA Live was regular too.

Playstation, remember? LOL

Literature

It varied, actually towards the end, kids stopped reading and started again. Babysitters’ Club, Sweet Valley, and American Girl marked the generation. For boys it was between How to Eat Fried Worms, There’s a Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom, Help! I’m trapped in Obedient School Again, Anamorphs, and Goooooosssbumpsss!!!! Who doesn’t remember Goosbumps? That was like the biggest thing. Then Harry Potter came out like in 1999 or before, and that took over. A Series of Unfortunate Events was big too. And Pirates of the Caribbean marked the later generation.

GOOOOSSSEEEBUMMMPSS!

Music

It sucked balls. Pop idols like Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls took over the industry. Who can forget the Hansen brothers? Pure lamety. Then here came Britney, the first teen solo act, and she influenced the whole world to come out with pop imitations. Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, Mandy Moore who dyed her hair for the “occasion”, and all of these pop groups like Dream and Play, and just too many pop artists to count. And then the boy Britney Spears came out, Aaron Carter. Even black people changed genres like After Dark and Blaque…TLC was the biggest group…until, well you know. It was back when Jesse McCartney was part of the group Dreamstreet. Hoku and Myra marked Disney and Nick movies for their contributions, and Baha Men music swept the world by storm. Then in 2001, it seemed Dark Child took over everything, and so did 50 cent…later Avril Lavigne stole Britney’s shine in the early Y2K years. Then all these poprock artists came out of the closet, of course singers like Michelle Branch, Lindsay Pagano, Vanessa…can’t remember the rest of her name, and even Pink came out of the closet with her “real self”. Evanescence also dominated the industry. Metallic and Coldplay were even at their peek. All the most hard-core music marked our generation….along with the most giddy… If only Panic! At the Disco had been around….

Britney Spears when she was a little innocent...only a little...

The wildest group around! Spice Girls!

Original famous style! Avril Lavigne!

50 Cent back in 2003...

Fashion

I remember overalls….which no one wears anymore. Jordans were popular too…Capri pants were the “it” thing…and for some reason…ponchos….baggy pants, bandannas and scarves, and surfer boy hair cuts. Jean jackets and Timbaland boots were in too. That’s what Spongbob used to remind me of back in 2002, his debut…a surfer, valley dude, which those bleached-blond idiots were the “it” thing. Now, Spongebob is just a geeky idiot…Ponytails, and scrunchies were popular. Lip gloss had just become a big thing. Belly tops were “oh-so revealing” but not compared to now…especially if you consider Gaga’s “no pants rule”. Skorts were popular, and no one wear those either. Numbered tees, like with “57” or “23” and words all over the pants. And because of 9/11, everyone was wearing red, white, and blue. Feathery and hot looking jackets marked later generations. Like this:

Jackets of early Y2K...

jacket

And these checkered and worded jeans:

checkered pants?

Backstreet Boys look...LOL

Words and Sayings

The words and sayings that came back were “Cool” and “Awesome”, but we also added “Totally hot” and “bogus” and “wack” and “corny” and “lame” and who can forget “psyche”. “Wicked Cool” and other sayings that are too funny to repeat. “For shizzle my nizzle” was popular too, and you could add of “izzles” if you liked. And” then “it’s off the heezy for sheezy. “Da Bomb” was it too. And “Bad” or “Sharp” was in too. “Totally Rad” was in too. LOL This is funny.

This is really a walk down memory lane…

I feel sorry for this generation. Sorry later generation, you missed out on the best age to be a kid. Your Television Network producers have gotten so stupid they can’t even read their own network titles. Instead they show everything but music on MTV and live actions on Cartoon Network. Not to mention, the face of Disney is no longer Mickey, but Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus….

No one uses their voices in music anymore, it’s now been replaced by cheap equipments that electronically “disguises” real voices.

Glad I grew up in Generation Next.

Movies

Movies ranged between Sixth Sense, Scissors hands, well really anything with Winona Ryder and Johnny Depp. Matrix marked the 21st Century. We also had “Ritchie Rich”, remember the little blond boy from Home Alone? And let’s not forget the Disney movies. The best movies in the 90s were the Disney movies, hands down, like Lion King, Huntchback of Notre Dame, and Beauty and the Beast. Of course, there were some pretty good thrillers here and there, and other children’s movies like Little Rascals which had Mary-Kate and Ashley, America’s Twins. Also, Dennis the Menace. Remember Free Willy? LOL That movie still makes me laugh. Childrens’ movies had reach their peak in the 90s. The first child actor won an acting award, Haley Joel Osment, and you used to see him everywhere before his sister went all “Hannah Montana”…though he still acts as Sora on Kingdom Hearts, which is all I care about.
